Property Description

Standing on a gently sloping half-acre site, the 1920s cottage is surrounded by a lovely, mature, old style garden with Golden Elm trees and majestic, indigenous Mountain Ash. Pockets of the garden offer tranquil corners to sit and enjoy a book or spy on the local bird life.

The cottage is divided into two separate apartments with private entrances to each from the side and rear balconies. Painted timber and fibro construction with sash windows, and some feature leadlight windows, is typical of the architecture of the era and the area. Many of the original features have been preserved and new appointments have been added in a style that complements the existing character.

High ceilings and doors, picture rails and deep skirting boards are found in most rooms. Traditional rugs are arranged over the polished timber floors. Elegant antiques and rustic timber cabinetry mix with period and country style furnishings, with a few unobtrusive pieces of modern, functional furniture. Drapes and lounge suites are classic in style and fabric.Traditional framed prints, collectables and decorative lamps add further dimension to the decor.

Each apartment has a sitting room with wood fire, large eat-in country kitchen, queen size bedroom and spa bathroom.

The Majestic Suite is the larger of the two apartments. The sitting room and adjacent kitchen/dining room overlook the front garden, beyond which is a backdrop of towering Mountain Ash. An open fire provides another focal point. A servery window connects the kitchen with the sitting room.

The Fern Suite is similarly appointed but with a slightly cosier quality. The sitting room has a quaint cast iron wood burner and the window outlook is of the rear garden full of shrubs and ferns. The large eat-in kitchen has an unusual octagonal light well set into the ceiling over the table. Musical instruments and an antique valve radio are among the distinctive decorations around the apartment.
