Located 2.5km from the heart of Grantville, in a rural setting overlooking Western Port Bay and French Island.
A glorious sunset over the bay. A deck from which to watch the woolly bulls and cows (Highland Cattle)grazing nearby. A walk to clear the head and cheer the heart. A beach nearby to stroll along and a pier to fish from. These are just a few of the pastimes you can look forward to at The Shearing Shed rural getaway for two. Come and experience them all for yourself.
The Shearing Shed is also a convenient base for exploring the South West Gippsland region, from Phillip Island to Inverloch, to Korumburra and the charming village of Loch.
Bluestone walls flank the wrought iron gates at the entrance to this 100 acre farm. The Shearing Shed is encountered soon after you enter the property. Opposite the front deck is an informal garden area through a rose arbor adjoining a hedge.A collection of trees are establishing themselves in the expanse of lawn and an old tray wagon makes an interesting sculptural feature.
Built in the 1950s, the Shearing Shed bears the classic corrugated iron roof and walls. The recent front timber deck has been built around an established tree that provides a shady canopy for the table and chairs setting. Along the blind side of the Shed is the farm veggie garden. The other two sides overlook fenced paddocks and yards, where the land rolls gently down towards a not too distant Western Port Bay, with French Island just across the water. The westerly aspect regularly provides spectacular sunsets, which can be savoured from a second deck off the bedroom at the end of the Shed.
The interior has preserved some of the original elements as the foundation for its rustic character, including exposed roof trusses and corrugated iron. The timber slat partition walls, which separate the bedroom and ensuite from the living area, also reflect the era. Well chosen farmhouse furniture, antiques and a sprinkling of art work elevate the interior style. The ensuite floor has inlaid black pebbles, a white claw foot bath and pedestal basin, creating an appealing combination of old and new. The large, modern kitchen has glossy white cabinets with a U-shaped bench area, and stainless steel appliances. A collection of earthenware atop the cupboards, and a wooden butcher's block, bridge the decor as does the large white buffet hutch beside the solid timber dining table.
