Whether you are drawn by the rich hinterland overlooking pristine beaches, the remarkable abundance of wildlife or the quiet towns and villages with seaside cafes and upmarket restaurants, the South Coast Region is a fabulous choice for a holiday.Beginning at Ulladulla, "where every day is a weekend", the sheltering breakwater provides safe haven to many fishing and whale watching charters. If you are not keen on actually landing "the big one", you can still enjoy some delicious fish and chips at the local fish co-op. The township of Milton, fast becoming home to many a "seachanger" - is a town of surprises. Boasting funky cafes, galleries and restaurants, Milton's Mick Ryan Park contains a large heritage listed Illawarra little leaf fig tree, that could be nearly 200 years old. The canopy of this remarkable tree covers nearly one acre of land. Nearby Mollymook has two golf courses, an 18 hole challenging championship course and smaller 9 hole course with sweeping views of the ocean. Opened in 2009, "Bannisters" restaurant is the jewel in the crown for English celebrity chef and restauranteur, Rick Stein. Set on the cliff tops of Bannisters Point, the fine dining is well matched by the magnificent views.Travelling south along the white sanded coastline, you will find the perfect destination for the fisherman, Bateman's Bay. Set at the mouth of The Clyde River, "the bay" not only has a wide variety of fish but "plenty o' them", as well. "Clyde River oysters" are gaining a reputation as "world-class" whilst the extensive mangroves upstream and the open waters towards the sea offer bream, flathead, mulloway, whiting and flounder. And, once again, there are charter boats to take you out amongst the snapper, tailor, kingfish and salmon. Whilst the fishermen are busy with their "catch of the day", the kids can enjoy some of the gentle, shallow-waved beaches that make "the bay" an ideal family getaway.Sea life abounds around Narooma. Just off the coast lies Montague Island, the breeding ground for Little Penguins and many species of birds, With the largest fur seal colony in NSW, the Island is frequented by dolphins, whales and sharks - an aquatic wonderland. For the golfer, The Narooma Golf Course is one of the finest in Australia with views of Montague Island to the east and the Glass House Rocks to the south. Simply stunning scenery that is continued down the coast to the sparkling bays and lakes of Pambula and Merimbula. In an area well known for it's crystal clear waterways, be sure to visit the Panboola Wetlands in Pambula, a conservation and education area leading the way in restoring important habitat for native birds and fish. Merimbula is best known for its variety of water sports, whether swimming or surfing, scuba diving or boating, the list goes on. Be sure to sample some of the fine dining offered in these towns, from trendy cafes and restaurants to pubs and the famous RSL clubs - you will not be disappointed.Once known as a whaling town, today's Eden is a much frequented haven for whale watchers from all over the world. The Killer Whale Museum is well worth a visit and, in season, whales can be spotted from various vantage points in the area.Inland from the coast is Canberra. History abounds in the Nation's Capitol, most famous for Parliament House, the "political hub" of Australia. But there are many attractions non-political. Each year Canberra hosts Floriade, Australia's celebration of Spring and all things "horticultural". The Australian War Memorialis considered "one of the most significant memorials of it's type in the world" and the National Portrait Gallery tells its' story in the faces of this wonderful country.There are many fine Bed and Breakfast Accommodations in the South Coast Region just waiting for you. The only choice you need to make is how soon can you get there?
