Central Victoria

Central Victoria's history includes the gold rush and bush rangers such as the Ned Kelly gang. Many of the towns in this region have heritage listed buildings. Kyneton Museum was formerly the Bank of New South Wales. Australia's oldest mainland theatre, Theatre Royale" is found nearby in Castlemaine. Seymour's Railway Heritage Centre is a wonderful day trip. Bendigo’s Shamrock Hotel is a grand 19th century Victorian treasure, now offering a fine dining experience whilst in Heathcote, many wineries enjoy the unique Cambrian soil and climate of this area producing many world famous red wines - 'Shiraz' a specialty. Activities round this region include horse riding, golf, hiking, cycling, fishing, boating and probably the most popular activity - wine tasting.Towns include Kilmore, Gisborne, Euroa, Woodend and the picturesque area of the Macedon Ranges, Maldon, Harcourt and a bit further to the west Maryborough - all have unique historical attractions, delicious restuarants, artisan galleries and produce markets.
