Property Description

The 20-acre property occupies a steep north-facing slope, where two beautiful valleys converge. Pastures, dotted with trees and grazing cattle, carpet the natural contours of the landscape - its folds, hollows and ridges. A tree lined drive descends from Grand Ridge Road, part way down the property to a levelled terrace where the house is sited in a grove of floriferous native plants, where delightful birds flit in and out.

Along the front of the house is a ground level verandah with sliding glass doors and full length windows from the living area and the main bedroom. The breathtaking panorama begins at day break as the sunrises at one end of the eastern valley and finishes with the setting sun at the end of the western valley. From the bedroom, the fireside lounge, the dining table, even the kitchen, each spot offers its own slightly different angle of view, or go right to the edge of the lawn for the 'Imax' version.

The cream, timber house has an unusual architect design that employs some interesting solar efficiencies inspired by the northerly aspect. The steep pitch of the main roof spans across the verandah and the living room. A large transparent section conveys the winter sunlight, through second tier windows, into the middle of the house. As for the interior aesthetics, the soaring ceiling, with exposed trusses, adds a spatial quality that balances the otherwise cosy floorplan. The soft grey colour scheme is complemented by exposed, pale timber elements in the roof trusses, ceiling and feature wall panelling at either end of the living room. An enclosed wood fire sits in its own alcove, which, together with 100% woollen carpets, will keep wintry weather at bay.

Special features

Grand Ridge is located on Grand Ridge Road, the region's spectacular scenic touring route. From the front gate you can explore in both directions by car, bicycle or on foot. The property's own 20 acres can also be explored on foot.
Mount Worth State Park and Mossvale Park, with its mature English trees and gardens, areshort drive from Grand Ridge.

Guest Comments
Hi Tony,
We had a great time at Grand Ridge. Thanks for the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful location. Everything went really well - your house and property exceeded our expectations. One morning we woke up to a beautiful fog in the valley and on New Years Eve, there was a natural fireworks display - what a vantage point for a storm!
Thanks!
Many & Simon

Hi Tony and Linda,
What a wonderful property you have. Our stay surpassed all expectations (a rarity this day and age!) and very welcomed. We loved the peace and quiet, the views and the proximity to Melbourne - exactly what we were looking for. Needless to say we will be visiting again when we need another fix.
Regards
John and Janine

Hello Tony and Linda,
Well to quote a famous line 'Ah the Serenity'.
We immediately felt ourselves relax when walking in the door - the scenery was just superb, even when there was no view due to fine misty rain. Just loved the absolute quietness and the fire and thoroughly enjoyed only listening to birds and the occasional moo.
We will definitely recommend the property to others.
Thank you for making your place available to stay in as it certainly met our expectations and we hope to return one day.
Pieter and Margaret

Description of rooms/units

The house has two bedrooms each with a queen size bed. The bathroom and toilet are separate. The bathroom has a long vanity bench and a roomy shower, as well as laundry facilities with a door to the rear verandah. All linen is provided.

The living area is open plan, incorporating the kitchen. There is a large, round, glass- topped dining table with six very comfortable rattan chairs. The leather lounge suite consists of a three-seater couch and two arm chairs gathered round the fire and television with the view ever prominent through the glass sliding door. Extra wood can be passed in through a convenient trap door next to the fire. Ample firewood is provided. Other equipment includes an ipod docking station, DVD, CD and VHS players, plus excellent reception of all Melbourne television stations. To preserve the pristine carpet guests are asked to leave their shoes at the door.

The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooktop, fridge, dishwasher and a large bench top microwave/convection oven. Electric jug, coffee plunger, a wide range of cooking utensils including a set of sharp knives, scales, pots and pans, plenty of glassware, crockery and cutlery can all be found in the kitchen cupboards.

There is a choice of three barbecues; an undercover gas barbecue, a traditional Weber (BYO heat beads please) and a permanent wood barbecue, built of stone, with two fixed garden benches to sit and enjoy the view and the ambience of an outdoor fire.
